Following a lengthy layoff, Ian Collier returned to carp fishing earlier this year. Joining him on the bank has been wife Naomi, and daughter Evangeline.
As Ian told the FWI
‘My wife and daughter have taken up fishing since July this year. Following me as I’ve resumed carp fishing after a 20 year hiatus. Fishing at Hawkhurst Fish Farm, they’ve progressed from kids pole fishing to the match lake over August and September, and after working with alarms and reels / clutches for a few sessions, made the step up to Quarry Lake. Where they had quite the day!
Evangeline landed 7 Commons to 14lb 7oz, including six doubles, breaking her previous PB of 10lb 4oz three times in the process.
My wife, Naomi, had only two runs, landed one, and also smashed her own PB with a Common of 18lb 4oz.’
Not to be left out, Ian also caught his fair share of fish, including this lovely common of 18lb 8oz. His best from the lake.

When All Your Birthdays Come At Once!
A Birthday trip to Mousehole Lakes resulted in not one, but two new Personal Bests for Martin Findlay.
Fishing a 96hr session on the popular Kent venue’s Kestrel Lake, Martin took the slightly unusual approach of using an unknown bait that had been languishing in the bottom of his freezer for the past two years. Thankfully for him, a liberal coating of Parker Baits magic dust rejuvenated their pulling power and just a few hours into his session, Martin found himself attached to a new PB in the shape of this 36lb 8oz Mirror Carp. To make it even more special, the capture came on the his actual birthday. As if that wasn’t enough reason to celebrate, Martin also managed to land a new PB common carp of 24lb 6oz to round off his trip and earn him a late birthday present in the form of this months bait package.

All though our Parker Baits competition is open to fish of all species and sizes, it is difficult to ignore such an impressive catch of large carp. Especially when the catch photographs are so well balanced and show the fish off to their best.
Fishing at Cottington Lakes, Robert Drouin landed an immaculate common of 32lbs, along with Mirrors of 29lb, 38lb and 39lb (front cover) to be the worthy recipient of this months Bait Package.

One Angler who has featured in the pages of the FWI a number of times over the past few months with his captures from Hawkhurst Fish Farm is Ricky Young.
Ricky has been putting together an enviable list of captures from the popular Kent venue’s Specimen Lake during a series of 48hr trips. In his latest report, Ricky managed to land a brace 30lb commons, with Carp of 31lb 4oz and 33lb, as well as a number of back up fish. This is the perfect compliment to a previous trip, where he landed a brace of thirty pound mirrors. It will be interesting to see what he can add to this tally with this months ParkerBaits bait package in his armoury!

The winner of July’s Parker Baits prize is Trish Witworth, who fished a weekend session at Frant Lakes, nr Tunbridge Wells. Fishing with her partner Lee, the pair caught ten fish between them, with Trish accounting for carp of 20lb 8oz, 21lb 8oz, 24lb and topped off with a new Personal Best of 27lb, as well as her first ever bream. Congratulations to Trish recipient of this months Parker Baits bait package.

Although Personal Bests are exactly that, there are certain benchmarks that transcend the angling world. A 2lb roach, 3lb crucian or 20lb pike have long been held as National Specimens. Austin Battell, not only set three personal bests in the space of two trips at his local Barden Lake, but also achieved three such specimens. Using stepped up feeder tactics, his cocktail bait of worm and maggots was first taken by a new PB Bream of 13lb 2oz. Before he had a chance to let that fact sink in, his rod was away again, this time attached to a PB Carp of 45lb. As if that wasn’t enough, he returned the following week and bagged another double figure bream and a new PB tench of over 9lbs. Any one of these fish would make an angler’s season, so to catch them in a matter of days make the achievement all the more impressive. Austin‘s success makes him a worthy recipient of this months Parker Baits bait package.
